FOUR Red pepper journalists who were arrested on Sunday on allegations of publishing according to police false story against Mbarara OCCIID and Public Relations Officer were released last evening without any charges preferred against them.
They were released yesterday evening without any charge according to the Rwiizi regional police spokes person Vicent Sekatte.
The journalists will return to police on Monday next week to report as their bond demands. Sekatte denied claims that the four journalists were beaten and tortured by him. These journalists include Alesmus Ninsiima, Ronald Agaba, Anthony Kakuba and Mujuni Stephen.
Sekatte further told www.mknewslink.com editor in a telephone interview today afternoon that the arrested journalists should stop accusing him of beating and torturing them. “By the way am not a complainant. you’re a journalist find out who the complainants are?
On the other hand the regional manager for Red pepper group in Mbarara Naboth Natumanya told www.mknewslink.com editor on phone today afternoon that he stands by his story. “My reporters brought to me a very accurate story and we used it in our platforms of Hello and Entatsi.
“Its true that PRO Rwizi region Vicent Ssekate and his OCCIID Taban Ochiling are having sexual relationships with Vision Group female journalists from Mbarara office. For your information we stand by our story” Natumanya said in a telephone interview with our editor.
“What confirms that our story so far is a true one, is the fact that for two days our reporters spent at police, they failed to slap charges against them because they don’t have a basis to charge them” supervisor of the four reporters said.
He noted that Ssekatte and Taban used their offices to intimidate red pepper journalists but we shall continue to publish such articles despite of intimidation police officials want to exert on our reporters. He added that they cannot be intimidated by these two police officers who have caused chaos at vision group by girls fighting for them and work put to stand still because of these two officers.
