FOUR REMANDED IN MBARARA OVER THE MURDER OF UNIVERSITY STUDENT

Four suspects were remanded on Wednesday for their alleged role in the murder of Kellet Mbabazi ,25 a year one student offering Education at Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara city and a resident of Kanyanku ,Kitimba ward I’m Rukungiri municipality.
They are Steven Owakubariho a lecturer at Metropolitan university in Biharwe, Gloria Mwesigye a wife to Owakubariho and a bursar at metropolitan university, Ronald Tumwesigye and Proscovia Nalweyiso.
They all appeared before Mbarara chief Magistrate Andrew Kabombo and were charged with murder contrary to Sections 188 and 189 of the Penal Code.
However, they were not allowed to take plea because they faced a capital offence which is only tried by the High Court.
According to the Charge sheet, the accused caused the death of Kellet Mbabazi on March, 1st 2024, while at Biharwe in Mbarara City.
Preliminary investigation indicate that the suspects killed the victim,who they suspected to be a thief.However the suspects pleaded not guilty, claiming the deceased was caught trespassing at their residence raising suspicion over his intentions.
The deceased’s body was discovered in the residence of Steven Owakubariho with nails inflicted in his head,neck and feet, indicating that the death was intentional.
