FOUR RUKIGA TRADING CENTRES CLOSED OVER INCREASED CASES OF COVID 19

At least four trading centers in Kamwezi sub- coumty Rukiga district have been closed down for 2 weeks for failing to adhere to Covid-19 guidelines.
Pulkeria Muhindo, the Rukiga resident district commissioner says the closed trading centers are; Mwanjari, Kazaza Omuchapa and Kakanyoro, all trading centers in Kamwezi Subcounty.
Muhindo who is also the head of Rukiga district Covid-19 Taskforce noted that shops which mostly double deal as bars and foodstuff shops have been locked because they have continuously hindered efforts to
curtail the spread of COVID 19.
The RDC says that other towns such as Kiburara and Kacuucu have been locked for one week.
She adds that those dealing in only foodstuffs will remain open but must make sure that their customers adhere to COVID-19 SOPs.
“We are cautioning the bar owners that if they continue illegally Operating, we shall have their stock confiscated and destroyed,” She explained.
At least 33 bar owners in Kibanda, Kigara, Rwenyangye, Kashekye and Kyogo parishes have been listed amongst those who are slated to be affected by the set guidelines.
Kamwezi has registered more than 130 positive COVID-19 cases in June and July 2021 alone.
