The Kigezi Inter- religious council Chairperson, Rev Fr Gaetano Batanyenda has said that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s nation radio campaign on land matters is wastage of time and deprives the president of his credibility.
Addressing Journalists at Kirigime Guest House in Kabale municipality yesterday, Fr Batanyenda, who is also the Kitanga parish priest, castigated the campaign, saying that President should have his ministers for land and information or Resident District Commissioners to popularize it.
He also said that the president needs to rethink on this bill, giving an example of the former Prime Minister, John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, who championed the public amendment bill, but later suffered it’s wrath.
President Museveni launched nationwide radio campaigns, aimed at getting views of the people on land and educating them on the proposed lands amendment bill 2017.
He clarified that the land amendment bill is not intended to steal people’s land but to quicken government projects that have been stalling as a result of court cases arising from compensation disputes.
