GEN. TUMUKUNDE’S SON REJECTED IN YESTERDAY’S RUKUNGIRI MPS NOMINATIONS,POSTPONED TO TODAY

The office of the Electoral Commission in Rukungiri district has rejected the nomination papers of Wilber Rwabatongore Rwishe and Amanya Tumukunde a son to former minister for security and the presidential hopeful Gen. Henry Tumukunde.
Rwabatongore was to run for Rubabo county parliamentary seat on an independent ticket while Tumukunde was to run for Rukungiri municipality parliamentary seat as an independent candidate also.
Abas Namara, the Rukungiri district Returning officer said that Rwabatongore failed to follow procedures as put by electoral commission and names on his national identity card and academic documents are different from the ones in the electoral register.
For Tumukunde’s issue, Abas said that he failed to book time for his nomination a thing that forced the returning officer to reject his nomination papers and forward it to tomorrow being the last nomination day for members of parliament.
“Under the electoral commission guidelines, the names of a given candidate should appear the same on his or her personal documents” Abas said.
Abas says that the two candidates will not be nominated without fulfilling what is required from them saying that the two still has chances of being nominated if they full fill requirements needed .
Rwabatongore told our reporter that he is not seeing any reason as to why he has not been nominated saying that he went for Affidavit letter that clearly explains his names.
Rwabatongore added that the district returning officer told him to appear again tomorrow at the nomination center for a final decision.
Tumukunde told our reporter that he had booked the day and time basing himself on first suggested nominations days of Monday and Tuesday adding that he forgot to book a fresh.
By press time, Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi of Rujumbura on NRM ticket, Dr. Wallen Tumwine of Rukungiri municipality on FDC ticket, George Owakukiroru Of Rukungiri municipality on independent ticket, Hon. Betty Muzanira of district woman MP on FDC ticket, Slivinio Gumisiriza of Rujumbura on ANT ticket among others were already duly nominated to run for their respective seats.
