GOMBA FARMERS DECRY RAMPANT LAND EVICTIONS

Farmers from Kyahi Subcounty’ in Gomba District have cried out to Government to save them from land evictors.
Farmers made the remarks as they met officials from the Farmers parliament of uganda led by it’s chairman Robert Kabatereine and Gomba Members of parliament at Kyahi Subcounty’Headquarters in Gomba District last week on Friday.
Over 700 farmers in Kyahi Gomba District have been forced out of communal land in Gomba District
Farmers say they have held meetings with their area Members of parliament about the matter but instead the situation has worsened.
“We have been in support of the current Government but we have however been neglected out by Government” furious farmers submitted.
In the same meeting farmers decried the prolonged quarantine of foot and mouth disease which they blame on District authorities who have kept a deaf ear to farmer problems.
Farmers further highlighted a variety of challenges including cattle theft, Poor network which hinders communication ,and power shortages.
Addressing farmers the chairman Farmers parliament of Uganda Robert Kabatereine who also doubles as the chairman Mbarara farmers of Voice Network , told farmers to present a report of their problems before concerned authorities including the ministry of Agriculture Animal husbandry and Fisheries.
Kabatereine however expressed dissatisfaction with local leaders who have neglected farmers
Addressing farmers the Gomba District woman member Of parliament pledged to follow up on issues perturbing farmers in the district and showed comittement to address the issues of land eviction.
