GOVERNMENT TO RENOVATE FLOOD-DEVASTATED KISIIZI HOSPITAL

The ministry of disaster preparedness has pledged to provide mattresses and blankets to Kisiizi hospital in Rukungiri district following the floods that left the hospital devastated.
The 280 bed capacity hospital was early this week critically affected by floods, destroying property and displacing patients as well. Oxygen concentrates, rolls of cotton wool and linen are some of the property destroyed during the calamity.
Musa Echweru; state minister for disaster preparedness the ministry’s contribution is to restore the hospital to its original working condition and challenged ministry of health to also provide oxygen concentrators. www.mknewslink.com has learnt.
Echweru who was yesterday in Rukungiri to assess the damage caused by floods directed Rukungiri local government to open up water drainage channels around the Kisiizi hospital to avoid a similar situation since more rain is expected and might cause more havoc.
He urged leaders to persuade the population to go back to basics and practice better Agricultural methods like terracing on hilly areas to control water run offs.
Members of parliament hailing from Rukungiri district contributed 10 million shillings which was handed over by district woman MP Winfred Matsiko.
Mary Paula Turyahikayo; the area MP said her constituency risks suffering serious famine given bad weather conditions it’s going through.
Floods washed away bridges, crops and destroyed many property at the hospital and the surrounding communities.
