GUNMEN SHOOT KABALE COUPLE, SUSTAINS SERIOUS INJURIES

A business man and his wife have were on Tuesday evening been shot at by unknown gun men in Kabale Municipality.

The victims are Francis Aryarugamu (64) and his wife Kenkonzi Zamu residents of Igabiro cell in Mwanjari ward in southern division Kabale Municipality. The incident happened at Bataka cell, Mwanjari ward southern Division, Kabale municipality.  The incident occurred on at around 08:40pm.

According to the Kigezi police spokesperson Elly Mate, the victims were shot by two thugs armed with one Sub machine gun rifle as they were proceeding home. The thugs who were travelling on a motorcycle with unclear number plate also grabbed a black polythene bag that was containing watermelon fruit and took off knowing that they have gone with money.

On realizing the polythene bag had watermelon, the thugs dropped it on the road and jumped on a waiting motorcycle and sped off towards Kirigime in southern division, Kabale municipality.

Maate said that the Aryarugamu sustained bullet injuries from the stomach and came out through the back while Kenkonzi the bullet entered from the back and came out through the right breast. He said that they were rushed to Kabale regional referral hospital for treatment.

Mate adds that police has launched a man hunt of the suspects because they were moving on a motorcycle whose registration number not yet known.

The Principle Nursing officer Kabale regional referral hospital Sr. Christine Akurut, said the victims were referred for further management. She said that the victims were referred at around midnight because the hospital could not manage the case.
