HAJJ JAMIL ZIYIMBA, LATE CAN. MAKARU’S POWERFUL MINISTER FOR WORKS SPEAKS OUT
By Wilber Muhwezi Kasibante
In Bushenyi—
I first met late Can. Yowasi Makaru in the late 1970s when he was a board chairman for Kabwohe Secondary School currently Nganwa high school.
He offered me a job at the secondary school as deputy head teacher when I was actually a grade III teacher.
I did the job for four years until I was appointed a sub county chief by the then president Idd Amin. I was shortly appointed county chief (Diisi) for Igara.
In 1989, Resistance Councils (RCs) elections were introduced by president Museveni and I was elected district councilor for Kakanju Sub County and that’s when I met late Makaru as the district chairman for greater Bushenyi.
Hajji Jamil told www.mknewslink.com today 2nd Feb.2022 at his home in Rwatukwire Bushenyi town that Makaru appointed him as the most powerful minister of works which planned the building of the current Bushenyi district headquarters (Nyaruju).
“We were very powerful to the extent that government vehicles would pick us from our homes and go for work at the district,” Hajji Ziyimba recalls.
Hajji Ziyimba added that they were later given 100% loans by the district to buy their own vehicles for office and personal use.
I received calls from my children in different parts of the country telling me that my friend Makaru was dead. The children recalled that I wouldn’t have managed their school fees if it wasn’t for Makaru.
I will definitely attend his burial on Saturday 5th Feb.2022 and I ask Allah to give him everlasting life.
