Online journalists have expressed concern over Uganda Communications Commission’s failure to control fake news and plagiarism in the media.
Uganda Communication Commission is a body that regulates communication sector in Uganda.
Speaking at Tuzza hotel during a press conference as mknewslink.com online webiste celebrated 9 years yesterday , Wilber Muhwezi Kasibante the managing director expressed his disappointment with UCC which he said have failed to deal with plagiarists.
He noted that UCC has stopped at collecting taxes from media houses and only look on as other journalists copy and own stories written by their colleagues.
He added that this is the same reason why there is more fake news these days which usually starts with one person and it’s spread.
Jaffari Bassajabalaba the Bushenyi District chairman called upon Ugandans to embrace online / digital journalism which he said is instant, cost effective, health friendly and hard to block.
He however asked the government to spread the mobile network across the country in addition to reducing data charges so that news can be affordable.
