HEAVY RAIN LEAVES WIDOW, 6 CHILDREN HOMELESS IN RUKUNGIRI, SEEK FOR GOVERNMENT’S HELP

More than 22 houses and several gardens have been destroyed by heavy rains in western division, Rukungiri municipality.
The heavy rains which started on Wednesday up to Thursday
left banana plantations, houses, coffee, and cassava plantations seriously
destroyed.
The affected areas are Kitimba, Kyembare, Kashasha and Katobo in
western division Rukungiri municipality.
Generous Ninsima, widow and a mother of 6 resident of Kitimba
ward western division Rukungiri municipality says that a wall of her
house was hit off and his entire household items destroyed by the
rain.
She now asks the government and merciful people to run to her rescue
since the rains left them homeless and with nothing to feed.
Emmy Turyabagyenyi, Councilor representing people with disabilities in
the municipal council says that the leadership of the area is
compiling a report after assessing the magnitude of the damage.
Turyabagyenyi, says that residents whose houses were destroyed have
sought shelter at the homes of relatives and are yet to receive any
support.
Charles Makulu, the mayor Rukungiri municipal council says that the
affected residents are in need of urgent help.
He says that consultations with relevant offices are already under so
that they offer support to the affected residents.
The rains also caused destruction in Nyakagyeme, Bugangari and in
Ruhinda sub- counties all in Rukungiri district.
