HEAVY RAIN WASHES AWAY ROADS IN BUHWEJU DISTRICT

River Mukazi Anyara in Buhweju district burst its banks following heavy rains, cutting off all major roads leading to Bihanga Sub County.
The heavy rains that pounded the area also destroyed the road that connects Bihanga Sub County to the neighboring Ibanda districts.
It also cut off alternative routes such as the one through Rukiri and Kayembe Parishes that connect to the sub county.
The rains also destroyed 10 homes, fish ponds and water sources in Nyakishenyi valley however, no person was hurt.
The rains also extended to part of Kasyoha-Katomi central forest reserve.
Juliet Muramira, a resident of Rukiiri, said that the rains started late evening on Monday and went on up to around 8:30pm.
She said that it destroyed cassava, coffee, millet gardens and banana plantations.
Juvenali Asiimwe, the Buhweju district LCV chairperson said that they are mobilizing road units to open the affected roads.
