Sub-county chiefs and community development officers in Isingiro district have been warned against asking for bribes from the youth groups that apply for Youth Livelihood funds.
The warning was sounded yesterday by the Isingiro district woman member of Parliament, Ayebazibwe Justine , while officiating at an exhibition function of 420 students who are undergoing vocational skills training at Isingiro secondary school, facilitated by her office in conjunction with other Mps in the district.
Recently in early December last year the Isingiro district launched that skilling project Uganda with the intension of equipping Ugandans with skills for the better future.
Ayebazibwe noted that this habit of embezzlement of fund by civil servants is killing the whole system of government.
A recent report by the Ministry of Gender, titled, Status of Problematic Youth Projects revealed that in key youth projects millions of shillings have been stolen in direct theft or through collusion with relatives of the officials at the local level.
According to Ayebazibwe, Isingiro district is among the districts with a low recovery of Youth livelihood funds, in addition to money being stolen by the sub-county chiefs, something she said is a shame to the district.
