On Tuesday afternoon the government officials from Hoima and Kikuube districts stormed Buhimba Technical Institute -B.T.I in Kikuube district to meet the angry students and resolve issues causing chaos and strike at the institute.
The meeting ended fruitless since the students demanded immediate transfer of the principal but in vain, causing more chaos including the pouring of lunch food and also setting fire at the main gate on Tuesday night.
The students demand for immediate transfer of their principal Akooki Anyamo on accusations of failure to organize practical training, provide them with safety wears, auto CAD lectures, bribery and account for computers that were stolen from school.
One of the students was quoted saying that the major cause for the strike is not learning materials but immediate transfer of the principal.
Students also vow to continue with strike unless the principal is transferred since he doesn’t satisfy their needs; they also threatened to vacate the institute premises if they are not helped.
In the same meeting, teachers complained over delayed salaries, working on condition, lack of learning materials and also poor communication between them and instructors.
While addressing students, the Hoima Residence District Commissioner -RDC Kisembo Araali called upon students to calm down and promised that matters would be settled.
He also said that August government grant for the institute was deposited in Kikuube district account, however by Saturday they will have settled all matters.
When contact, Principal Akooki Anyamo said the major cause for strike is due to lack of finance since government didn’t grant them in August.
He however declined matters concerning with bribery and computers which were stolen from Institute premises, adding that by the time computers were stolen he was in Gulu for seminar.
