HOIMA: WOMAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING ONE YEAR OLD BABY

Police in Hoima district are holding a 20-year-old woman for allegedly stealing a one year and two months old baby girl.
The suspect identified as Niwandinda Rehema Judith is a resident of Lusaka upper in Kahoora division Hoima municipality.
ASP Julius Hakiza Allan, the Albertine region police spokesperson said that the baby was stolen on Tuesday at 9am when the suspect convinced the baby’s grandmother Aminah Tibasiima, a resident of the same area to let her go with the baby to the dentist which she unknowingly obliged to.
Hakiza said that the baby belongs to Sam Mpanimanya and wife Burushillah Nabwami, residents of Isaka cell in Kijungu ward Kahoora division who went for work out of Hoima district leaving the baby with the grandmother.
Tibasiima, the grandmother of the baby said that the suspect first befriended her for some days with intent of depriving her of parenthood.
She became suspicious and mounted a search with the help of neighbors but their efforts did not yield any fruits.
She then reported the case at Hoima Police Station and police embarked on investigations which led to the suspect’s arrest.
Hakiza said that the suspect was found in her new man’s house in Katanabirwa in Kyankwanzi District claiming to have given birth to him.
She is now detained at Hoima Central Police Station pending advice from the Resident State Attorney while the baby has been handed over to the family members.
