HOLIDAY TEACHING: KABAROLE RDC ARRESTS FOUR TEACHERS
BY FRED MWEBEMBEZI
IN FORT PORTAL….
On Monday, two teachers and a security guard at Banyatereza Golden Jubilee Nursery and Primary school in Fort Portal were arrested on orders of the area RDC, Asiimwe Stephen for reportedly teaching during holidays.
Other teachers were on Tuesday detained at Buheesi police station in Buheesi Sub County Kabarole district over the same allegations.
However, the move by the RDC has caused outrage from a section of parents who are accusing him of performing the duties of the district education officer and the inspector of schools.
Kiiza Henry a parent and a resident of Kagote B cell in West Division explains that it is during holidays when learners can get enough time to revise their books especially while at school.
Kabanyoro Flavia a parent from MT Harukooto in South Division wonders why the RDC caused the arrest of teachers before noticing relevant authorities.
According to Kabanyoro, pupils can easily make consultations during holidays than normal learning time.
However, Katungi Michael a resident of Kisenyi in West division highlights that pupils need to remain at home during holidays to assist their parents to do house work.
Mr. Asiimwe insists that teaching in holidays is against the Education ministry guidelines.
