Sheema district Protestants are frustrated after the church of Uganda head offices in Kampala issued a letter suspending the creation of new dioceses.
Recently Sheema district applied for their own diocese which they named Central Ankore Diocese (CAD).
According to sources, West Ankole Diocese under Rt Rev Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni allowed them to start preparations and gave them a list of what they should do first before they are granted their own diocese. Some of the requirements were; house of the Bishop, offices of the diocese, house of the Dean among others.
More than 90 Christians had already come out pledging differently to put in place everything required from them and per now they had already finished leveling land where some offices will be built.
However, while Christians were still doing all these, they received a letter from Rev Canon Williams Ongeng the Church of Uganda provincial secretary suspending the creation of new dioceses until new guidelines are put in place.
“This is to formally inform you that the provincial assembly standing committee sitting on 28th November 2018 resolved the following; 1. Suspensions of creation of new dioceses until new guidelines are in place, 2. Verification team to complete work on already proposed dioceses of East Busoga and West Rwenzori, suspension letter reads.
Hon Eng Yorokamu Bategana Katwiremu Chairman organising committee Central Ankore Diocese told www.mknewslink.com that they are aware that the WAD may be behind all these since no king has ever wished his kingdom to be divided.
Mesarch katusiime who is also on CAD organising committee said that there is logic behind this letter adding that there are some big politicians from Sheema district behind the letter.
He revealed that they claim the suspension was passed during a meeting by a committee which Bishop Johnson sits on yet he gave them a go ahead and has never told them anything about the resolved suspension.
Mzee Hebert Mugumya elder in protestant church noted that perhaps church of Uganda realized that CAD was not necessary but would only make Christians suffer as they raise funds for putting up the required facilities giving an example of North West Diocese which he said took over 20 years to be completed.
West Ankole Diocese spokesperson Zadock Amanyisa refuted all Circulations that the suspension letter was basically for Sheema district adding that the church of Uganda is set to bring new laws which are to beautify the reputation of the God’s church.
