Police in Mbarara have confirmed that Judith Kyarisiima, a senior midwife at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, died by drowning. Kyarisiima, who went missing from her home in Katete Central Cell on September 2, 2024, was found dead on the shores of River Rwizi on September 10, 2024.
SP Samson Kasasira, spokesperson for the Rwizi Region police, revealed that three suspects, including Kyarisiima’s husband, Justus Nkwasibwe, who had been held in custody since last month, have now been released due to lack of evidence.
Kasasira noted that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the drowning was accidental, a suicide, or a result of foul play. Police continue to explore all possibilities.
