In Ibanda—
Women together with their children in Ibanda municipality have built residential houses and paid school fees out of stone quarrying.
A group of women work hard to crash stones which they sell to builders putting up commercial buildings in different towns in Ibanda municipality
According to the LC 1 chairmen of Katooma, Kyereeta, Kigarama and Nyakatookye cells, old women and youth in these villages engage in hard labour to raise school fees and generate income for their families.
Ms Jennifer Kamateeka, a resident of Katooma cell told www.mknewslink.com on Wednesday that many women and children remove stones from pit with bare hands without protective gloves and glasses to protect their eyes from flying stones and dust..
However the Resident District Commissioner Ibanda, Eliasto Akatuheebwa has expressed his concern over what will be the outcome of these activities on the environment noting that when it rains the places will be flooded and the water will wash away all crops , banana and coffee plantations.
He has warned that the residential and commercial buildings will be affected by floods as a result.
