‘IF YOU RETIRE IN 2021, UGANDANS WILL KILL US’—MITOOMA DISTRICT SPEAKER TELLS PRESIDENT MUSEVENI

The Mitooma district speaker and chairman of mitooma district NRM pakalast volunteer group Mr. Enos Kyarisiima stunned Ugandans yesterday when he told president Museveni that if he retires in 2021 the people of Mitooma district and other Ugandans will kill leaders like him.
“You retire in 2021 and go where, your supporters will kill us, leaders” Kyarisiima told Museveni
Kyarisiima made the remarks yesterday in Kashenshero town council during a function organized by NRM volunteers to thank president Museveni for retaining Maj. Kainda Otafiire as minister despite having not made it to parliament.
“We hear people talk of age limit in the constitution, for us this is not an issue to us. What we need are services and you are ably giving them to us. You are still capable” Kyarisiima noted.
Going by the 1995 constitution of the Republic of Uganda, President Museveni is not eligible to contest for another because a Ugandan who is above 75 years is barred from contesting for president. President Museveni is 72 years now and will be 77 in 2021 when the next elections will be conducted.
However, there is currently a debate amongst Ugandans calling for the removal of age limit in the constitution to allow Museveni contest again.
President Museveni never made any comment to Kyarisiima’s comments despite the fact that Maj. Guma Gumisiriza MP Ibanda North during his brief speech urged Museveni to consider Ugandans voices because he had heard such comments from eastern Uganda and other parts of Uganda.
On the other hand Mitooma district is much divided district politically between camps of Maj. Gen Otafire and the district chairman Benon Karyaija. The divisions according to leaders led to defeat of Otafire in the parliamentary seat for Ruhinda county.
When Museveni stood to speak, he urged the leaders to forgive each other and forge away for development of their area.
He pledged to talk to the DPP to forgive MP Donozio Kahonda the forgery cases he facing in Jinja court. “If we can forgive Joseph Kony who killed thousands of Ugandans how about Kahonda who allegedly forged academic papers. I will talk to the DPP over that case” Museveni said.
Kahonda is the one who defeated Otafire twice; in NRM primaries and general elections when he, otafire left the NRM party and run as independent candidate
Otafire while giving his speech noted that he had already forgiven his former enemies in the district. Kahonda was not at the function but museveni promised to ask him why he never attended the function.
