A team of officials from the Inspectorate of Government has impounded Masindi District Local government vehicle which was being used by the District Speaker; Moses Kirya.
One of the officials who preferred anonymity told www.mknewslink.com that the IGG had received information that the vehicle was being mismanaged.
The vehicle was on Tuesday found parked along Commercial Street in Masindi town at the time it was impounded. However, Kirya was not in the vehicle and it is not clear who had driven it to the vicinity.
When contacted for a comment, the Masindi Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) John Nyakahuma, explained that the vehicle was impounded following a report by concerned citizens.
The Double cabin pick up registration number UAJ 403X was allocated to the National Agriculture Advisory Services NAADS Masindi office in 2009. It however became redundant when the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries disbanded the (NAADS) programme structures in all the districts to pave way for the implementation of the single spine extension system.
According to Nyakahuma, the Masindi District council passed a resolution allocating the vehicle to Speaker Moses Kirya on March 19, 2019. However, the driver who was allocated to it was never allowed access.
He explained that although he had brought the issue before the leader of Government Business, it was not brought up for debate in the last council of July 28, 2019.
At the time of filing this story, we could not get a comment from Kiirya since he did not pick our calls.
