IGP KAYIHURA ORDERS DPCs,RDCs AND GENERAL PUBLIC TO CONDUCT COMPULSORY WEEKLY MARATHONS

The Inspector General of Police, General Kale Kaihura, has ordered all
district police commanders AND THE Resident District Commissioners in
the seven districts of the Bunyoro sub region to conduct weekly
marathons to help them stay fit and also fight crime in the community.
He noted that the marathons should always be conducted on Saturdays to
help strengthen cooperation between the police and the community in
the fight against crime.
The districts in Bunyoro include; Masindi, Hoima, Kagadi ,Bulisa,
Kibale, Kakumiro and Kiryandongo
He added that the marathons must be attended by all people including
police officers crime preventers, business community and members from
non-government mental organizations.
He said this will help to bridge the gap between police and the local
population which will help police and crime preventers to get timely
information about criminals.
He made the remarks on Sunday at Kabalega Secondary School during the
launch of the first police marathon for the Albertain districts.
He also said that they are going to emphasize on mobilization and
popularizing self defence skills whenever the conduct marathons.
Bahebwa Longino, the deputy Resident District Commissioner Masindi
welcomed the idea and noted that they already have the riders club and
they are going to pick from that.
However, he asked the IGP to provide them with trainers to train them
in the self defence skills.
Kabalega Musa,a resident of Masindi commended the IGP for the
initiative of the weekly marathon noting that this will help to reduce
the crime rate in Bunyoro sub region.
