Women member of parliament failure to work for their voters has been attributed to non functional women councils
This was revealed by the Ntungamo woman MP Ms Beatrice Rwakimar while speaking yesterday at the swearing in and inauguration of the Ntungamo district women council at Red Cross hall in Ntungamo town.
She said that formally, MPs would get resolutions made by women councils and take them as needs of women to parliament for lobbying and deliberations but since their inactivation about 10 years ago, it has been hard for them to gather needs of women in districts.
She commended government for reactivating the councils saying this is a new dawn in a new era.
The council chairperson Peace Musiime asked women to participate in key development activities that would push them to economic independence and finally out of poverty.
