The lands and urban development minster Betty Amongi has attributed the increasing land wrangles in Bunyoro to incompetent district land boards. Amongi who is in Buliisa district for a two day visit to ascertain land issues said this while addressing locals at Nyamasoga trading center Biiso sub-county Buliisa district yesterday evening. She said that in most cases the district land boards have been involved in illegal land transactions and leases This was after the area locals, area members of parliament and the lc5 chairpersons’ outcry over the district land boards’ lease of land in different parts of the district to Kampala based business man Balaam Kaahwa In his presentation, Stephen Mukitale Biraahwa said that the district land board has been issuing land leases despite a presidential directive stopping all lease offers in Buliisa since 2011. Mukitale who presented the minister with documents indicating lease offers by the district land board to Kaahwa Francis Balaam stressed concern on how the land board and the past district leaders have been defying the presidential offers Hon Norah Nyendwoha the Buliisa woman MP Branded Kaahwa as a cancer disease which is eating up Buliisa district She urged the minister to intervene in order to save locals In the same meeting the lc5 chairperson accused Kaahwa of conniving with government agencies like police and other top officials to create fear among locals hence grabbing land. She further met with residents of waki village boadering Buliisa from Hoima who were evicted by kaahwa from their land |
