INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES DOMINATE KANUNGU PARLIAMENTARY NOMINATIONS

At least 9 out of 15 duly nominated candidates for parliamentary seats in Kanungu district are running as independents.
According to the list of aspirants that were nominated by the Electoral Commission on October 15th and 16th , 7 are Independents , 3 are from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), 3 are from Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) while other parties did not have representatives.
This is in sharp contrast to the 2016 general elections where majority of the candidates were flag bearers of different political parties.
Among those nominated as independents on the district woman Member of Parliament include, Honest Kansiime Fortunate, Shantal Murakatete, Kyasiimire charity and Hon. Elizabeth Karungi, the incumbent since she lost the NRM flag to Patience Kinshaba Nkunda while Mackline Mbaasa Asiimwe was nominated on FDC ticket.
In Kinikizi east county, Deus Nkwasibwe was nominated as an independent candidate, Alans Mark Tabaruka was nominated on FDC ticket while Dr. Chris Baryomunsi was nominated on NRM ticket.
In Kinikizi west, Gregory Mugabe, Kagurusi Dickson and Ivan Rwakabogo were nominated as independent candidates, Hon. James Kaberuka was nominated on NRM ticket while Brain Atuheire Batenda was nominated on FDC ticket.
Only 15 aspirants were duly nominated to run for parliamentary seats in Kanungu district.
