JOURNALISM LECTURERS IN KIGEZI NARRATE PROFESSIONAL CHALLENGES

A group of journalism lecturers in Kisoro district yesterday said that the increasing challenges they face while trying to impart media skills to their students are at high risk.
The lecturers said this yesterday while addressing the press at at Metropolitan International University grounds ahead of the upcoming Media Week.
Anthony Tumwine, a lecturer at Metropolitan international University, narrated that students enrolling in journalism courses without a clear understanding of the course’s value and subsequently failing to attend classes. He says this situation makes it difficult for lecturers to effectively teach and guide these students, hindering their progress.
He said that the field of journalism in Kisoro is still in its infant stages, making it challenging for students to quickly adapt and develop the required skills in this evolving landscape.
Francis Nizeyimana, a lecturer at Kisoro Municipal Vocational Institute, said that the lack of essential equipment such as cameras, recorders, a computer laboratory, and studios are crucial for practical training and hands-on experience in journalism.
Nizeyimana appealed to institutional heads to allocate funds for the procurement of these equipment so that they can significantly enhance the quality of media education and provide students with the necessary tools to excel in the field of journalism. This investment is pivotal in ensuring that students in Kisoro district receive a comprehensive and up-to-date media education.
