In Bushenyi–
As magistrates’ strike continues country wide, the officer in charge of crime investigations Department greater Bushenyi; Bernard Muhumuza has written to all DPCs in the region to ensure complete investigation before effecting arrests.
In a letter he addressed to all District Police commanders in Greater Bushenyi region, Muhumuza says it is unwise to arrest suspects and keep them in police custody without trial as magistrates’ courts are not working.
He ordered the police to encourage the system of settling simple cases out court as the only option since the magistrates’ strike continues.
Magistrates and Judges declared a sit-down strike on last Friday in protest of government’s failure to increase their salaries.
All government prisons and police are stuck with suspects as magistrates ‘courts all over the country remain closed.
Since the strike began, police have been arresting suspects and keeping them in cells waiting for courts to resume business.
