Hon. Justice Vincent Emmy Mugabo, the justice of the high court has realized a need for parliament to enact legal aid law to spare finances for advocates to offer free legal services to Ugandas since the majority of them cannot afford money to pay personal lawyers.
Justice Mugabo was speaking as chief guest during the annual probono day at high court in Booma Fort Portal yesterday afternoon.
He noted that lawyers have done their best to provide free legal services to the population from the little they lobby from their partners.
He added that if parliament can avail them with money; it can save the burden on the judiciary.
He called upon the public to embrace and accept people who are released from prisons as they are reformed and no longer harmful to the public.
Counsel Ruth Ongom, probono advocate tasked all advocates to always accept pro bono cases in the interest of public good.
Fort Portal Resident City Commissioner Mr. Asiimwe Stephen thanked the judiciary for the probono initiative to save the situation before escalating to courts of law and called upon the public to use court as a last resort as there are many ways of solving disputes out of court.
