The minister for local government Tom Butime has rejected a request by a section of Kabale district councilors to have their district chairperson censured.
Patrick Besigye Keihwa, the Kabale district chairperson was allegedly cited incompetent and corrupt by a section of district councilors who wanted him out of office.
Among the twelve reasons that councilors had availed as evidence to pin Keihwa was that he allegedly stole fifteen bags of Irish potato seeds that were meant for all the district councilors.
According to a letter that was seen by www.mknewslink.com , minister Butime rejects the councilors request citing lack of sufficient evidence to censure the chairperson.
“I have in accordance with section 14(4) of the Local Government Act Cap.243, perused and evaluated the alleged grounds for the removal of the District Chairperson in the said Notice and found they lack particulars of charge. The Notice also lacks the necessary documents and sufficient evidence on the issues raised in your petition,” Minister Butime wrote.
Minister Butime further guided the grieved councilors to proceed with their petition by submitting the necessary documents to have the chairman out office.
Chairperson Keihwa shortly after the councilors had filed in the petition held press conference at the district headquarters and refuted all the twelve grounds the councilors had petitioned against him. He said those with intentions to stand against him in the coming elections were behind the infamous censure agenda.
