The catholic priest for Kakore parish in Kabale diocese Fr. Herbert Agaba is on spot for involving himself in politics.
Herbert has appeared severally in public, campaigning for some aspirants in Rubanda district especially on the race of Rubanda east Member of Parliament.
He openly campaigned for flag bearers of the National Resistance Movement –NRM for the Rubanda District at the burial of Nyakana Valentinah in Kirwa village Ihanga parish Bubare sub county Rubanda district on Saturday last week.
Herbert told mourners to vote for candidates with political parties but not independents claiming that leaders without political parties cannot develop the nation since they don’t cooperate with others.
Rogers Kabanda, a resident of Kabale municipality in the same diocese wonders why the priest thinks that independents are non-developmental yet some of them have been vocal in the past years.
Naboth Tukamushaba Teriyitu an independent aspirant for Rwamucucu sub county district councilors says religious leaders are primarily expected to preach the gospel and not to advise the electorates on whom to vote and so he should apologize.
Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda, the Chairperson for inter religious council told our reporter that such religious leaders are influenced to campaign for some parties to win support from the voters.
He, however, says that every Ugandan has a right to choose a leader of his/her wish but not a religious leader to decide for voters.
Herbert declined to talk to our reporter to explain why he is engaging in active politics.
