Jonan Munyambabazi the Kabale Southern Division Assistant Health Inspector has been arrested by police and accused of bribery.
Munyambabazi was arrested on Wednesday in an operation led by the Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Darius Nandinda and the municipal authorities.
Emmanuel Byamugisha Sentaro the municipality mayor said that Munyambabazi has for long been accused of soliciting bribes from people that need to construct illegal structures in the southern division.
The mayor revealed that after receiving complaints, they informed police and Munyambabazi was arrested yesterday afternoon when he asked for a bribe of 150, 000 shillings from a businessman whose identity was withheld, but managed to negotiate the bribe down to just 70, 000.
“The money handed out to the health inspector had been marked,” the mayor added.
Byamugisha urged the people to report to police the officers who are soliciting bribes in return for services.
RDC Nandinda said that the operation will continue until civil servants who demand for bribes are dealt with accordingly.
Munyambabazi was detained at Kabale Central Police Station.
