In Kabale
Kabale based Journalists yesterday stormed the office of Kabale Resident District Commissioner Darius Nandinda for failing to grasp their grievances.
This is after the RDC on 27th May 2020 expropriated a phone belonging to Richard Akandwanaho A journalist working with voice of Kigezi as he was covering a story about security operatives in Kabale town impounding vehicles that were operating during curfew time as per the presidential directive.
This prompted other journalists yesterday morning to storm the office of the RDC demanding explanation on the matter which he failed to respond to but instead ordered them to first hand over all their phones and other recording Gadgets or quit his office.
This forced journalists to leave RDC’s workroom with vexation. Job Namanya (New vision) said that it is quit absurd that the RDC who could have worked with Journalists who were listed among Essential workers instead chased them away from his office.
Uziah Atusasire (TV West) vocalized that it is chagrin for someone who represents the president to act as an unschooled person instead of sorting his issues with Journalists in a deferential manner .
He said many Journalists have been facing the same challenges while fulfilling their duties and called upon journalists all over the country to come up and defend their rights.
However , Anthoney Kushaba (African Paerl News) said that this was not the first time this RDC menaced Journalists in Kabale adding that he has been threatening many especially those who write dismissive stories about him.
He thus asked the concerned Authorities to intervene and stop this RDC from using Journalists as used condoms.
