In Kabale—-
Kabale district officials have threatened to shut down all schools which have denied pregnant girls access to education citing that it’s contrary to government guidelines on reopening of candidate classes.
The Ministry of Education and Sports instructed all primary and secondary schools to allow finalists who are pregnant to return to school so as to complete their education.
Now, According to a report from the office of District Education Officer, some schools have denied pregnant girls access to their schools in Kabale district.
Bwengye Moses the Kabale acting District Education Officer says that some church founded and private schools have totally failed to adhere to the government’s call on pregnant girls to be allowed in schools claiming it’s also contrary to their constitutions set by boards of governors not to allow pregnant girls in the school.
The Kabale district LCV chairperson Patrick Besigye Keihwa threatened to close all schools blocking pregnant girls from report back because it was clear in the president’s speech during reopening of schools for candidates and finalists that all students should be allowed to school.
However, the Kigezi diocese inspector of schools Rev. Oscar Mwesigwa disagreed with the district official’s statements saying that for the school to admit the pregnant girls there must be a meeting between a parent and school authorities so as to harmonize on some terms and conditions to follow during school time.
Mwesigwa adds that the government decision on allowing pregnant girls to school is not good. It needs a lot of research because when they are allowed into schools others girls can copy bad morals from them.
