Kabale district local government has been operating for over 100 years with its headquarters sitting on a land that has no land title.
Kabale district is found in Western Region of Uganda and was originally part of Kigezi district, before the districts of Rukungiri, Kanungu, and Kisoro were excised to form separate districts.
The issue is worrying the district leadership especially the councilors.
According to Christine Turyakiira alias Nyinabashatu the female councilor of Kitumba Sub County Kabale district, they are in fear that they might be evicted any time soon.
Turyakira revealed this during the end of year council meeting that was held at the district Rukiiko hall
The Kamuganguzi councilor Julius Barusya blamed the district council for being reluctant and therefore asked the relevant authorities to follow-up all the government lands in the district and ensure that they secure title
Emmy Arinaitwe the councilor for Kitumba Sub County tasked the district top leadership to intervene into the matter and make sure government lands are titled and secured.
The Kabale district chairperson LCV Patrick Besigye Keihwa said that in the past years land titles were not essential compared to nowadays.
However, he promised to follow up the matter and ensure that all government lands in the district get titles.
