Kabale municipal council is drafting bylaws regulating the operation of washing bays in the municipality.
According to the Kabale municipality environment officer Alfred Ahimbisibwe, the bylaw, once drafted and approved by the council shall mandate all washing bays in the municipality to operational licenses.
Ahimbisibwe added that the bylaw shall also make it illegal for washing bays operate without basic requirements like toilets, waste collecting points, soak pits and impermeable surfaces for sanitary reasons.
On 22nd May 2017, Kabale municipal council ordered all washing bay owners to have garbage collecting centers and impermeable surface among other requirements.
However a directive has not been implemented as our reporter visited all the washing bays in the municipality and observed none of the directives requirements was visible on the sites.
Speaking to our reporter yesterday in his office, Ahimbisibwe noted that with the drafting of the bylaws, council shall legally close all the washing bays opposed to the demands of the set by laws regulating the washing bays operation in the municipality
