KABALE PATIENTS STUCK AS MEDICS STRIKE ENTERS DAY THREE
By Vanansio Kakogoso
In Kabale–
Dozens of patients seeking treatment are stranded at Kabale regional
referral hospital following the sit down strike of Medics.
Medics under their umbrella Uganda Medical Association laid down their
tools this morning to compel government to give them a pay rise and
improve their welfare.
When www.mknewslink.com reporter visited Kabale regional referral hospital this morning he found many queues at ART clinic but the clinic and the Doctors office were closed.
The eye clinic was open but there was no health work to attend to
patients.
In the maternity and gynecology wards only students and few nurses
were attending to patients. Our reporter also found many Doctors in
the hospital compound. When they were approached, they said that they
had turned up to attend on to emergencies.
Some of the patients and attendants who never wanted to reveal their
identities narrated that the health workers said that they will not work
on them until government increases their pay. Other attendants said
that they have special arrangements with Doctors to attend to their
patients and pay them.
The Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Principle Nursing officer Sr.
Christine Akurut said that all the Doctors had turned up to work on
emergency cases with assistance of intern students .
