KABALE UNIVERSITY URGES PRESIDENT M7 TO FULFILL INFRASTRUCTURE PLEDGE

Kabale University has requested the President of Uganda to fulfill his pledge to enhance the university’s infrastructure.
Edison Kakuru, the Chairman of the University Council, stated that in 2016, President Museveni, who was the guest of Honor at the graduation ceremony, pledged 40 billion Ugandan shillings to improve the university’s infrastructure.
Kakuru made this statement during his speech at the university’s 8th graduation ceremony where 13,087 graduated, held at Kabale University playground in Kikungiri Cell, Southern Division, Kabale Municipality.
Kakuru noted that the university administration has been waiting in vain for the pledge to be fulfilled.
By that time, the university was still looking for money to accommodate students in dilapidated hostels, which are insufficient, forcing students to seek accommodation outside the university.
He said that nowadays the university lacks sufficient classrooms and enough offices for the lecturers, which is the biggest problem they have at Kabale University.
According to Kakuru, the university’s inability to provide decent accommodation has hindered its efforts to attract students from neighbouring countries.
Professor Joy Kwesiga, the University Vice-Chancellor, mentioned that all efforts to follow up on the pledge have been futile.
Joyce Moriku Kaducu, Minister of State for Education and Sports (Primary), representing the Minister for Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, said she would present the university’s demands to the government to see if it is possible for the pledge to be fulfilled.
The university has a total enrollment of 66,661 students. This year, it has admitted over 3,000 students and continues to accept new students. Additionally, 402 students are supported by the government of Uganda, and 227 students are under the loan scheme.
