The Kabale District Veterinary Officer Dr. Benard Kabagambe has revealed that for the last 34 days, they have not registered more cases of pigs dying of African swain fever.
On September 11, 2019, the commissioner of Animal health Dr. Anna Ademun imposed quarantine on movement of pigs and its products in Kabale and on September 18, 2019 in Rubanda after registering 225 cases of pigs dying of African swain fever
According to Dr. Kabagambe about 421 pigs were confirmed dead because of the epidemic in a period of 2 months.
However, speaking to www.mknewslink.com Dr. Kabagambe attributed the successful eviction of the epidemic to cooperation between the veterinary officers and the publications.
Kabagambe also said that the quarantine still stands in all parts of Kabale until they are sure that the disease is no more in the district.
He also warned that whoever is found violating the quarantine will still be arrested and face the law accordingly.
Dr. Kabagambe further appealed to the pig farmers in the district to improve the hygiene and housing of their animals to curb down the scourge.
