KABAROLE FOOD VENDORS COMPLAIN OF INCREASED TAXES

Food Vendors from Kabundaire market West division Fort portal municipality Kabarole have expressed their dissatisfaction to fort portal municipality over the hiked taxes imposed to them.
The vendors complaining are the water melon, tomato, cabbage, and onion vendors among others.
According to vendors, early August this year, Fort portal municipality produced new tax prices on various foods which they claim they were not consulted on.
They disclosed that the taxes that have been imposed were hiked in double.
Agondeze Tadeo a water melon vendor at Kabundaire market has disclosed that one tones full car has been at 15000 but is now at 25000, a tipper 20,000shs-45000 and a canter 30,000shs-80,000shs and Noa -10,000shs -20,000shs.
A crate of Tomatoes had been charged at 3000shs per day but has been increased to 5000, a sack of cabbage from 3500 to 10,000shs.
He explained that the new prices introduced are too much for them to pay compared to what they earn thus they are not ready to pay them, seeking government intervention.
Mary Kemigisa cabbage seller disclosed that they were told that prices were hiked to run some of the municipal activities like cleaning where they are working from, security among others.
She has further expressed concern over the garbage surrounding them yet they pay taxes.
Rev. Willy Kintu Muhanga the mayor said that the taxes were resolved by the council but they are going to revise them since vendors have failed to agree with them.
