KABAROLE HOSTS WORLD SCHOOL DEBATE LEAGUE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Kabarole district has hosted a one week world school debate league National tournament 2019 held at Nyakasura School under the theme let’s talk about Adolescents Health.
According to Sonzi Wamala Emmanuel the Programs Director writing our world, the debate is aimed at creating a platform for students to express their ideas, share their views on pertinent issues that go on around their communities and help them learn how to speak in community and do research.
Sonzi disclosed that they realized adolescent issues are one of health issues that need to be talked about thus young people also have a voice.
Sonzi explains that adolescents have been neglected especially on things concerning about their health resulting them acquiring disease, drug addiction and school dropout thus forcing them choose the health theme and even debate about it.
He has disclosed that they have held 8 regional tournaments prior the debate include greater Masaka, central, Western Region, Rwenzori, Kigezi, Eastern, Lango and Acholi regions and from those regions at least 38 best schools were picked to form 48 debating groups to come and compete for the national crown
He also disclosed that this will not stop at debating, but in future will help students be better speakers, living as better people and getting more informed on choices they make as adolescents.
According to Sonzi from the nationals, the winner will continue with the East African Debate Championship that will be in Rwanda whereby 15 best performers will be selected to go for world school championships in Sirilanka.
Margret Kihik the vice chairperson LC5 Kabarole who officially opened the debate, observed that there are increasing cases of drug addiction in the country among the youths that has led some to run mad thus urging students to desist from them and be focused.
