KABAROLE WOMEN SURVIVE BEING LYNCHED OVER WITCHCRAFT

Amina Kapeya 80 and Mugole Mukiga in her late 50s yesterday morning survived being lynched by an angry mob of Nyakasanja zone, Karambi parish,Karambi sub county on allegations of practicing witch craft and cannibalism.
According to an eye witness, the two are accused of having bewitched one Veronika Basemera; a Village Health Team worker and a worker at Karambi health center 111 who died yesterday over unknown sickness.
It is alleged that the deceased has been bed ridden for some time and she was taken to several hospitals but no disease was detected by the medical physcians.
According to sources, Tuesday nigh during the vigil,Mugole came at the deceased’s home as a mourner and during mourning time Mugole brought a stick (Akaramura) and hit it one the deceased .
She was seen by some of the mourners and when she was interrogated she said that it is Amin Kapeya who had given her the stick to hit on the body.
The two were beaten and rescued by the police that rushed at the scene after being tipped off by residents.
They further disclosed that Kapeya has been a renowned witch doctor in the area.
Our reporter rushed to the scene and found that Kapeya’s house burnt and properties worth shillings burnt to ashes, Banana plantation destroyed, and about six goats killed.
By press time police was not at the scene but the OC CIID Fort portal police said that they were still investing the incident since the two were rescued by the Kasusu police post.
