KAGADI HOSPITAL SUSPENDS OPERATIONS OVER POWER BLACKOUT

The management of Kagadi general hospital has suspended all surgical operations due to persistent power blackout putting the lives of hundreds of patients at risk.
The laboratory, theatre, toilets and nursery ward are also affected.
It is also reported that Medicines, reagents and blood have been spoilt due to lack of power for preservation.
According to health workers who spoke on condition of anonymity, the hospital is now characterized by darkness at night and bad smell as there is no electricity to pump water for cleaning toilets.
They disclosed that, patients are referred to other hospitals to get treatment.
Patients who spoke to our reporter expressed fear that their lives could be in danger, calling upon the government to come to their rescue.
When contacted the hospital medical superintendent Dr. Isaac Kakibogo said there are no funds to pay electricity bills due to the closer of the financial year and there are no measures to address the situation until august this year.
Our reporter has learnt that the hospital staff have vowed to stage a sit-down strike with effect from Friday 22nd June 2018 if the matter is not addressed.
