Over 350 students of Kagongo Senior secondary school in Kagongo division, Ibanda municipal have been sent home following a strike that left school property destroyed and the school business paralyzed.
The boarding students started a strike on Sunday night Aug. 13, 2017 that left some window glasses and doors completely destroyed.
According to eye witnesses, by the time police arrived from Rwengiri police post, some students had run away and climbed the hills near the school to hide.
The students told www.mknewslink.com reporter in Ibanda that they have been eating poor meals, some teachers have been harassing female students while others had engaged some in love relationships.
They still complained that some of the food stuffs such as rice, beans, groundnuts and maize flower have been openly sold on black market by the cooks especially at Rome trading center and in Bwera villages in Kitagwenda county in Kamwenge district.
The students blamed the head master over the rice which was donated by the Minister for Karamoja affairs and MP for Ibanda south, Mr. John Byabagambi which had been sold off by cooks and the school management failed to probe into the matter.
The head master, Mr. Leonadius Natukunda admitted that the students had raised their problems, but management was in plans to solve them. He explained that some problems raised were guanine while others are mere allegations.
The District Police Commander, Mr. Danis Ochama ordered the school to close down immediately until further notice.
