Following the increase death rates of mothers in labour, from the traditional birth attendants and too much congestion in health centers, in Kamwenge district ,a 50 Million Uganda shillings maternity ward has been constructed.
The maternity ward is in Bwizi sub county Kibale county Kamwenge district and has been constructed by MTN Uganda in a bid to reduce maternal mortality rate in Uganda.
According to mothers, Bwizi health center has been using only one block to attend to all patients at the facility.
mothers told www.mknewslink.com that they have been lacking privacy whereby they have been producing while everyone watched them which forced them to visit traditional birth attendants where many mothers lost their lives.
Mary Mbabazi an expectant mother stated that establishing the maternity ward will save them from moving long distances and ease transport since they always don’t have money.
She added that one bed could be used by two mothers which she said was not healthy and lacked privacy
Tumuhimbise Abednego the hospital in charge stated that at least 30 expectant mothers have been visiting the facility a month which he said is a small number whereby majority of the mothers produce from villages.
According to the chief executive officer MTN Wim Vanhelleputte MTN has done this to give back to the community as it is done every year in education, health and disasters.
