In Rukiga—
Residents of Kamwezi Sub County in Rukiga district are protesting the appalling state of Rutobo-Kamwezi road.
The 18 kilo meter road in contention is the area ring road that connects Kamwezi Sub County to the Rwandan border and to the Kabale-Mbarara road.
The Kamwezi sub county chairperson Tedson Nuwagaba says the large potholes in the road have always turned away motorists, vehicles who always come to buy goods and to attend Kamwezi market. He says that the sub county no longer collects revenue from the market because the traders always complain lack of customers brought up by the poor state of the road.
The In charge Kamwezi Customs, Nobert Mpairwe told www.mknewslink.com that they do not progress because drivers fear risking their vehicles to the poor state of the road. Mpairwe says despite the inconvenience the problem is causing, it is about six months now and the Uganda National Roads Authority has not come to work on the road.
Betty Atwine who uses the road everyday says that she has been forced to temporarily park her car after it was recently damaged by a bare culvert.
The Rukiga district Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi says that she has on several occasions approached the office of Uganda National Roads Authority Kabale branch on the poor state of the road but nothing has been done. She assured the locals that she will continue to push them until it is worked on.
The Uganda National Roads Authority, Road Maintenance Engineer Kabale branch, Alison Abenabo blames the delays to lack of enough man power. She asks the residents to be patient saying that the road will be worked in the coming three month.
Abenabo however blames the poor state of the road to poor farming methods.
