KANUNGU DISTRICT COUNCILOR SENTENCED TO 29 YEARS IN PRISON
The high court in Rukungiri presided over by Justice Moses Kazibwe has
today 7th June 2017convicted and sentenced the former Rugyeyo Sub County
woman councilor in Kanungu district, Melana Mareere to 29 years in
prison.Mareere was charged with six others.
The other convicted and sentenced are Ndyareba Patrick, Twinamatsiko
Onesmus, Bukararama Nelson, Muhoozi Dismus who were sentenced to
33 years and 6 months while Tweheyo Richard and Andinda Benson were
sentenced to 34 years and 8 months respectively.
These were charged with the murdering of Mzee Rukandonda George of
Burora, Rugyeyo, Kanungu district.
Prosecution led by Nakasa Aminah told to court that on the morning of
25/11/2015 while at his home the accused and others still at large
beat, burnt and destroyed the properties of the deceased.
The prosecution side convinced court that the case was committed after
the deceased allegedly fought with Charles who had come to open up the
trench near his home and seven witnesses were presented in court to
pin the accused.
The accused persons denied the charges as the trail of the case started.
Justice Moses Kazibwe while giving his judgment said prosecution had
proved beyond doubt with evidence and witnesses brought to court that
the accused had committed the case.
