KANUNGU MAN DIES OF EBOLA-LIKE SYMPTOMS AT BWINDI HOSPITAL

A 35 year old resident of Nyamirambi-Rugando cell Kyeshero Parish Kayonza Sub County in the neighborhood of Democratic Republic of Congo died of Ebola-like symptoms yesterday at Bwindi hospital.
Daniel Kajangu, the deceased was admitted at the hospital in the wee hours of yesterday after developing Ebola-like symptoms.
According to the family member who is being kept in an isolation room at the hospital, Kajangu who has been sick for the last two weeks developed Ebola-related symptoms on Thursday at around 5pm. He developed high fever, vomiting and passing stool with blood, red eyes and lacked appetite.
The hospital executive director Dr. Birungi Mutahunga has confirmed this saying samples of blood were immediately taken to Uganda virus research institute-Entebbe and they are waiting for results today.
He has added that a number of people who came in contact with the patient including nurses and a boda boda rider have been put under monitoring in an isolation room at the hospital.
Dr. Birungi cautioned people at the border with Democratic Republic of Congo to be on high alert and against direct contact with people.
If confirmed, this would be the first Ebola-related death outside DRC since August outbreak that has claimed the life of more than 130 people in North Kivu province.
