KANUNGU WOMEN, YOUTH LAUDED FOR INVOLVEMENT IN COFFEE VALUE CHAIN

Women and youth have been lauded for their involvement in the coffee value chain, in a bid to earn some income and taking care of their families.
This was yesterday revealed by the executive director Kigezi Coffee Development Academy Joshua Rukundo at the closure of a tree planting exercise in Kanungu district by a team of visiting women from the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The function was held at Nyanga Sub County headquarters and the group of ten under farm Africa an NGO working in Kanungu district, planted natural tree species in various coffee gardens across the district under the theme ‘a thousand trees’.
Joshua Rukundo further revealed that currently Kanungu coffee quality has improved standing at 87.5% , the best in Uganda, competing highly with the brazil coffee which is the best in the whole world at 92%.
Vicente Omodoi the coordinator farm Africa in Kanungu district is optimistic that Kanungu coffee has a bright future especially on the world market.
He thus called for joint household planning, gender mainstreaming, farming as a family business, and financial literacy among others which in the end will contribute towards the development of their communities.
