KASESE ANGRY TRADERS BLOCK ROADS WITH GARBAGE AFTER AUTHORITIES FAIL TO COLLECT IT
By Alex Baluku
In Kasese—
Vendors in Kizungu Market of Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality on Friday morning protested against the alleged failure by government to collect garbage that had been piled in the market and the
surrounding community.
The vendors, who preferred anonymity, blocked the roads leading to the area with garbage as a sign of their dissatisfaction with the area leadership.
According to them, for close to a month, none of the Municipal Vehicles could be seen collecting garbage and yet it had accumulated in their area of operation and so they decided to use it
to block the roads.
Swaleh Bamuhire, the Vice L.C I Chairperson for Kizungu cell explained to our reporter that the garbage had not only accumulated in the market but also in many homes belonging to the people in the community putting his electorate at a health risk.
Pimako Kasereka, the Nyamwamba Division LCIII chairperson condemned the act, arguing that it was not showing the spirit of patriotism.
According to him, the Division realized low local revenue collections when the country was still in the Covid-19 induced lockdown hence affecting the budgeting process.
However, Yona Baluku Mayinja, the Chairperson for the vendors refuted the allegations that they were involved in blocking the roads saying the act could have been done by a mad person in the area.
Later, the leadership of the Division sent a truck to collect the garbage that had been used to block the roads.
