KASESE COUNCILORS DEMAND FOR WATER DRAINAGE MASTER PLAN
By Joel Kaguta
in Kasese—
The need to have a drainage master plan for Kasese Municipality to
avert floods yesterday dominated Kasese Municipal council session
chaired by the Municipal speaker, Alex Kwatampora.
In his address, the Municipal Mayor, Godfrey Baluku Kabyanga told the
house sitting at the Municipal council hall in Kasese town that at
least 50 houses had been destroyed in Kidodo cell in Central Division
following the last’s week floods that hit the area.
Kabyanga asked the Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Robert
Centenary who also attended the council to lobby the Ministry of
Housing, Urban and Planning to include the municipality on their list
of others areas for the drainage master plan.
He also told the council that other projects to be implemented by the
Municipal authority next year include the construction of Kasese Main
market commonly known as Kasindi and working on the roads in the
municipality.
He named roads like Mandela, Saad, Henry and Mbowa Yabo among others
to be worked on very soon as the municipality receives the quarterly
releases.
The Municipal Speaker, Alex Kwatampora agreed with the Mayor and urged
the Municipal councilors to sensitize the residents against building
in drainage channels because if it continues flooding, then their
houses would be destroyed.
The council asked the Municipal planner to go to the ground and
sensitize the developers.
The Member of Parliament, Hon. Robert Centenary asked the residents to
jointly work with all relevant authorities before they continue
developing their plots.
He pledged to follow the issue until it yields results.
